January 2010 Observing List

Focused on Triangulum and surrounding areas.

Abell 84
Planetary Nebula

Constellation: Cassiopeia    Magnitude: 14.4    Size: 2.5'    RA: 23h47m44s Dec: +51°23'56"
Notes: Irregular structure

Abell 4
Planetary Nebula

Constellation: Perseus    Magnitude: 16.7    Size: 22"    RA: 02h45m23s Dec: +42°33'05"
Notes: Faint, annularity suspected with large aperture.

NGC 777
Elliptical
Galaxy

Constellation: Triangulum    Magnitude: 12.5    Size: 2.8' x 2.0'    RA: 02h00m14s Dec: +31°25'46"
Notes: Bright with a stellar core.

NGC 949
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Triangulum    Magnitude:  12.5    Size: 3.0' x 1.6'    RA: 02h30m48s Dec: +37°08'12"
Notes: Mottling detected in moderate aperture.

NGC 608
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Triangulum    Magnitude: 14.2    Size: 50" x 30"    RA: 01h35m28s Dec: +33°39'24"
Notes: 11th magnitude star involved almost center.

NGC 251
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Pisces    Magnitude: 14.2    Size: 1.9' x 1.2'    RA: 00h47m54s Dec: +19°35'48"
Notes: Hard to see because of the 6th magnitude star in the FOV.

NGC 1022
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Cetus    Magnitude: 12.1     Size: 2.6' x 1.9'    RA: 02h38m32s Dec: -06°40'39"
Notes: Spiral structure visible with small aperture.

NGC 1817
Open Star Cluster

Constellation: Taurus   Magnitude: 7.8    Size: 16'    RA: 05h12m15s Dec: +16°41'24"
Notes: Sparse double cluster with NGC 1807 with 15th magnitude galaxy PGC 16865.

NGC 1309
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Eridanus    Magnitude: 12.0    Size: 2.3' x 2.2'    RA: 03h22m06s Dec: -15°24'00"
Notes: "Mirach's Ghost's Ghost" at least that's what I think.

NGC 3172
Polarissima Borealis
Spiral Galaxy

Constellation: Ursa Minor    Magnitude: 14.8    Size: 1.1' x 1.0'    RA: 11h47m12s Dec: +89°05'36"
Notes: Faint, hardly moves in the FOV for being so close to Polaris!
